||Depere, WI - Brown County Bank $1 18__ WI-115 G2. Proof. PCGS Choice About New 58. An extremely rare bank that was not in the Chester L. Krause Collection, and the first we have cataloged. The proof notes plated in the two books are presumably from the Wisconsin Historical Society. Printed on an odd $1-$10 sheet configuration, this example is likely the first note from the bank ever offered for sale. Quite a striking note design by Rawdon, Wright, Hatch & Edson, New York, it was printed on India paper only. At the top center is wide scene of hops gathering, showing the entire family at work (less a few of the children playing). At the far left is standing America with an Indian princess holding a peace offering: a powerful image. At the far right is a small vignette of agricultural products. Hole Punch Cancelled as made. The bank's rarity is without dispute, and this is one of two denominations from the unique proof sheet in the Newman Collection. A tremendous opportunity to obtain what once seemed beyond reach.
