||Eau Claire, WI - Hall & Brothers' Bank $3 18__ WI-150 G6. Proof. PCGS Very Choice New 64. Another extremely rare bank with the issued notes actually signed by the Brothers of the title. A very distinctive Wellstood, Hay & Whiting, New York & Chicago proof on India paper mounted on original cardstock. At the top center, above the title, is a uniquely styled sawmill vignette. At upper left is an ornate "3" showing a woman's head popping out. At the lower right in an oval are railroad workers digging a track bed. A train is seen behind in the distance; the base vignette shows a locomotive. Hole Punch Cancelled as made. The issued notes used red protectors and the G6a $3 issued note in Krause Part I realized $3,220 back in September 2009. We believe these are the first proofs ever offered for sale. Why this well margined example is not designated PPQ is not apparent to us. A rare vignette, rare bank, and a rare proof. Ex: Eric P. Newman Numismatic Education Society.
