Description Elk Horn, WI - Elk Horn Bank $3 18__ WI-165 G6a. Proof. PCGS Very Choice New 64 Apparent. A rarely seen title. The Krause Collection had only a low grade $1 note from the series. This proof is likely unique in private hands; the other is on the sheet at the Wisconsin Historical Society. Thoughtfully engraved by Wellstood, Hay & Whiting, New York, it was printed on India paper and mounted on its original cardstock. In the center is a long train traveling west, with a broad vista seen behind, and the title above. At the upper left is a young girl in an oval. At the lower right is the elk's head emblem for the town and bank. The small base vignette shows a beaver with his sharp teeth visible. A red protector THREE is across the bottom of the note. Hole Punch Cancelled noted, and the Apparent grade is due only to some very "Minor Stains." Very elegantly and beautifully designed. Ex: Eric P. Newman Numismatic Education Society. Realized $3,525.00. Newman VI (Heritage Auctions, 4/2015), lot 19395. Description courtesy of Heritage Auctions.
