Description Howard, WI - Northern Bank $1 18__ WI-260 G2. Proof. PCGS Gem New 66PPQ. This is a very rare bank, like most of the Wisconsin banks here, and has a distinctive central vignette from the plates engraved by Rawdon, Wright, Hatch & Edson, New York. A bold India paper proof mounted on its original cardstock. At the top center a mill is situated between a small canal and a rail line. The scene is enlivened by a boat sailing toward us and a train traveling away. At the lower right is seated America, with her hand on an ornate numeral "1." Hole Punch Cancelled as prepared. This is a beautiful type, and we have seen only one other. It appeared in the first Chet Krause sale, Lot 2015, and realized $2,070 in September, 2009 (on India paper only and AU). A very sharp looking RWHE design and worth a premium as a Gem. Ex: Eric P. Newman Numismatic Education Society. Realized $1,997.50. Newman VI (Heritage Auctions, 4/2015), lot 19397.
