Description | Continental Currency January 14, 1779 $55 Fr. CC-98. PCGS Choice About New 55PPQ. The third odd-denominated bill printed on this interesting pane type and first issued on this resolution. The emblem features the sun coming out after the storm with motto POST NUBILA PHOEBUS (After dark clouds comes the sun). The sun emanates red rays across the sea on this very vibrant emblem. Complete margins are on all sides -- just a little close at the left. Lightly handled, but very fresh and original. Another excellent example from this colorful series. Ex: Eric P. Newman Numismatic Education Society From Newman VIII (Heritage Auctions, 11/2017), lot 28208, realized $456. Image and description courtesy of Heritage Auctions, https://ha.com. |
