| Description | Continental Currency January 14, 1779 $70 Fr. CC-101. PCGS Extremely Fine 45PPQ. This is the second-highest denomination Continental note, and it was introduced on this series. Originally, $7 and $8 notes were to be issued and printed on a lower-denomination pane. However, when the need arose for higher denominations such as $70 and $80 due to inflation, these were authorized and printed. The emblem shows a healthy tree standing alone as designed by Francis Hopkinson. The motto VIM PROCELLARUM QUADRENNIUM SUSTINUIT (For four years it has withstood the force of storm). This is the lengthiest motto on Continental currency. Very well margined on all sides. The note is only lightly circulated and boasts clean surfaces and brilliant color. Ex: Eric P.
