Evansville, IN - State Bank of Indiana, Branch at Evansville $1 January 1, 1848 IN-1 G58, SENC, WVS 200-1. PCGS Fine 15. This is a genuine, and very rare, issued branch note from Evansville. At top center, Justice supports a shield showing the historical coat of arms from the state; at the left, America appears as a Native American Princess; and at the right, Minerva stands with the stars and stripes flag and her shield. At the base is the statehouse. Toppan, Carpenter & Company's imprint is at the bottom. The note uses a curious serial numbering for which we have no explanation. Vibrant and exceptional looking. A prize Indiana note. Ex: Eric P. Newman Numismatic Education Society, Heritage Auctions Internet Sale (5/2017).
