Catskill, NY - Catskill Bank $5 Contemporary Counterfeit Nov. 1, 1828 NY-590 C50. PCGS Fine 12 Apparent. This is an important note in the New York and Obsolete currency canon. Often called the true "Wild Cat Note," it has a custom vignette of a mountain cat being pursued by a Native American hunter. This is from a plate copied from Peter Maverick's original. Only one genuine note is known of the design, a proof impression sold in the Schingoethe sales. This example is printed from a strongly inked plate and is well framed. Noted with some "Small Holes." Pleasing overall. Ex: Eric P. Newman Numismatic Education Society, Heritage Auctions Internet Sale (5/2017).
