Description | New Jersey February 20, 1776 6 Shillings John Hart Signature Fr. NJ-170. PCGS Choice About New 58PPQ. Six Signers of the Declaration of Independence appear on Colonial and Continental currency: John Hart, Francis Hopkinson, John Morton, William Ellery, James Wilson and George Clymer. John Hart is the signer most often encountered on New Jersey notes. The February 20, 1776, examples are scarcer than those from March 25, 1776. Printed by Isaac Collins of Burlington. On this note, Hart's bold signature is underlined, with those of How and Tucker below (the note is fully issued and not a partially signed "raid" note). Not perfectly cut along the bottom, but excellent in every other way. The Hart signature is strong and distinct. Only faint handling is seen on immaculate surfaces. Ex: Eric P. Newman Numismatic Education Society From Newman VIII (Heritage Auctions, 11/2017), lot 28068, realized $1080. Image and description courtesy of Heritage Auctions, https://ha.com. |
