Description Rhode Island December 2, 1740 40 Shillings Face Proof Fr. RI-42. PCGS Extremely Fine 45 Apparent. This second face plate impression from the "large denomination plate" of the issue is also printed on laid paper, and apparently contemporarily like the 20 Shillings offered here and the two Boyd collection notes we cited in the previous description. The overall style and layout are similar to the 20 shillings with intricate details on three sides, texts within the top two-thirds, and Rhode Island arms at lower left. Cherub and eagle details and some other subtle differences are seen. Noted only with "Small Edge Nicks," which consist of minor faults along the top right edge. This is a fascinating impression and historic Colonial Proof. Ex: Eric P. Newman Numismatic Education Society Realized $1292.50. Newman VII (Heritage Auctions, 10/2015), lot 18200.
