Description | Rhode Island May 22, 1777 $1/6 Fr. RI-270. PCGS Choice About New 58PPQ. A small format, uniface note printed on laid paper and essential to make change in this period. The simple typeset design is within an ornamental border with the "One Shilling" equivalent in the top border and at the bottom. Signed by Foster. This is one of the higher denominations of nine authorized, but at 1 shilling, would have been a handy note to make change. Well margined, faintly handled, and one of the finest notes seen from the issue. Strictly Uncirculated notes from the series are rarely encountered. Ex: Eric P. Newman Numismatic Education Society From Newman VIII (Heritage Auctions, 11/2017), lot 28137, realized $1020. Image and description courtesy of Heritage Auctions, https://ha.com. |
