South Carolina City of Charleston July 6, 1789 6 Pence Fr. SC-194. PCGS Extremely Fine 45. This is an interesting series of municipal scrip notes and is also collected alongside South Carolina Obsolete currency. A uniface, smaller format note printed on laid paper with the imprint Abernathie Fec. An ornate border is all around, and the beehive at lower left is buzzing with bees. Fully issued and signed by L. Foster. In addition to its Newman listing and status as the Newman plate note, it is also listed by Austin Sheheen as #766 in his book. There were 12,000 notes authorized of this denomination, a much scarcer type than the wide format notes and completely issued. This example, boldly printed and showing wide margins, has the appearance of a Gem at first glance. Ex: Eric P. Newman Numismatic Education Society.
