South Carolina February 8, 1779 $50 Fr. SC-154. PCGS Extremely Fine 45 Apparent. To most Colonial note collectors, the 1779 Thomas Coram engraved notes comprise the most attractive series printed and issued. His engraved plates, particularly the backs, rivaled or exceeded those of Europe; the faces were intricate and charming. The $50 denomination with its Providence and globe motif on the face and Atlas with boulder back is a beautiful type. The face printing is deep, bold, the margins wide and even. The back registers well to the face on this note printed on cream paper. Noted are "Minor Mounting Remnants and Paper Pulls on Back; Small Edge Spit in Right Margin." A very appealing $50 Coram note.
