Description | Virginia July 17, 1775 2 Shillings 6 Pence Small Ordinance Fr. VA-72a. PCGS About New 53PPQ. A beautiful Half a Crown note from the small ordinance. Boldly printed and well detailed. This plate variant has the spelling "Six Pence" in the second line of the obligation (as opposed to SIXPENCE). Signed by King. This completely margined note exhibits pleasing originality. Blue fibers are seen from both front and back. The second lowest denomination from the issue. These were heavily used to make change, and high-grade notes are rare. This has a Gem appearance when viewed from the face. Ex: Eric P. Newman Numismatic Education Society From Newman VIII (Heritage Auctions, 11/2017), lot 28161, realized $1560.
