Franklinton, LA Parish of Washington $5 Aug. 2, 1862. PCGS Very Fine 25. Parish notes from Louisiana have been well collected for generations because they can be classified into different sets and subsets. A complete set of all known parishes has been achieved by very few. Washington Parish is scarcer, and this note would represent it in any set. Printed on white paper, without imprint. Titles and obligations are across the center with a bolded "$5" top center. The left end has intricate devices, and the right end displays a standing female allegorical figure. The first example of this type we have handled. The condition is splendid, and this is one of the finest encountered from the Parish. Ex: Eric P. Newman Numismatic Education Society.
From Newman X (Heritage Auctions, November 2018), lot 20118, realized $1560. |
