Description Clinton, MS - Commercial & Rail Road Bank of Vicksburg, at their office in Clinton $20 June 17, 1836 MS-205 G28, Kraus 10586a, Leggett 20var. PCGS Very Fine 20 Apparent. The Newman Collection contained many desirable Mississippi notes from the 1833 to 1841 "Hard Times" period. This is a scarce branch note from the Vicksburg home railroad bank. It has classic 1830s-style engravings by Underwood, Bald & Spencer. With hat in hand and holding the American flag, a sailor stands on a wharf at the top flanked by denomination counters. Ends show identical cameo heads at the center. The base vignette shows an early passenger train traveling away. Noted with a "Small Edge Tear at Left." Notes from the issuer, series, and branch are not often offered at auctions. Ex: Eric P. Newman Numismatic Education Society.
