Massachusetts - Parchment Facsimile for Nathaniel Paine's Monograph of the 1722 1 Penny Round (type of Fr. MA-71). PCGS About New 53PPQ. A trimmed facsimile 1722 Penny round, but printed on a parchment-like paper. The paper is unlike that used for the original notes as it is bright white and does not curl along the edges due to the flat printing process used. The design is also different. The small index-hand insignia is on the wrong line; it should be on the second line pointing toward "One Penny" rather than with "1.d," which should comprise the entire first line (cf. Newman Part VI: lot 19481). There are other subtle differences with the genuine in the typography and bordering. Some minor bends and handling. Ex: Eric P. Newman Numismatic Education Society.
From Newman X (Heritage Auctions, November 2018), lot 20381, realized $840. |
