New Orleans, LA - Bank of New Orleans $100 Feb. 5, 1862 LA-100 G28b. PCGS Fine 15. A well above average condition example of this $100 denomination type. Engraved plates are by Rawdon, Wright, Hatch & Edson. The steamboat Crescent City is at the upper right; at lower left, Neptune emerges dramatically from a shell; and seated Agriculture is at lower right. Like other notes from the series, the back is deep blue with a crescent moon at center with the title, and nested within, a pelican and chicks vignette. Intricate end panels display "100" vertically in the center. Noted as "Hole-Punch Cancelled," as is typical, but without the back endorsement sometimes observed on series. Above average grade for the type. Ex: Eric P. Newman Numismatic Education Society.
From Newman X (Heritage Auctions, November 2018), lot 20441, realized $204. |
