Savannah, GA Merchants and Planters Bank $50 June 1, 1860 GA-315 G14b. PCGS Very Fine 30. This shows the same layout as the previous $50, with the waterfowl pair at the base, but with the American Bank Note Company imprint. Vermillion protector "L" and counter surround devices are vibrant. Published in the original Peck and Newman article as the illustration for Figure 4. Vibrant and well margined with the appearance of a higher grade from the face. A perfect example of the vignette type, and an appropriate choice for the published paper. Ex: Eric P. Newman Numismatic Education Society.
From Newman X (Heritage Auctions, November 2018), lot 20480, realized $156. |
