(Circa-1861) New England Elephant Token Kenney-5 Robinson Copy Copper-Nickel, MS64The Whitman Encyclopedia lists both the brass and nickel varieties as W-15210, and makes no mention of copper-nickel examples. Since the authentic W-12140 New England Elephant token is extremely rare, it was a logical candidate for Alfred S. Robinson to copy. The dies were made by Boston engraver Joseph Merriam. This is a well-struck Choice prooflike example with light sea-green and pink-red toning across the reverse field. Ex: Eric P. Newman Numismatic Education Society.
