A. Bechtler Gold Dollar, Original MS61 27G., 21C., Plain Edge, K-24The Plain Edge variant is the usual August Bechtler gold dollar seen from the 1842 to 1850-period, struck in Carolina gold to the prescribed fineness of 27 grains, 21 carats. The majority of A. Bechtler gold dollars were struck between 1842 and 1847, some -- as described in the Kagin reference -- with high rims and rotated reverses, which are clearly evident on this coin. This is a boldly struck Uncirculated, reddish-gold example of Bechtler gold with partially reflective surfaces beneath the attractive, original toning. Listed on page 394 of the 2019 Guide Book.
