Title Lot 15059
Description 1774 Ireland Halfpence, MS63 Brown Prototype for the Later IssuesAn exceptional and extremely rare offering whose origin as a pattern issue is evident by the boldness of the strike throughout, with every lock in George's hair fully detailed, and every feature on the intricately engraved harp well-defined. While 1775 and 1776 saw regular circulation halfpence production, the 1774 striking can only be found as a pattern, indicating that this was indeed the prototype for those later issues. This pattern is quite scarce in any condition, increasingly so when encountered in such lofty condition as this, and accordingly deserves exceptionally close bidder attention. Truly a numismatically significant coin, one which many collectors may never have the chance to acquire again. Ex: Eric P. Newman Numismatic Education Society. Heritage Auctions 11/2018 (Newman XI), lot15059 (realized $4560). Heritage link: http://www.ha.com/c/item.zx?saleNo=1283&lotIdNo=11836
