Description Wonderful English Family Coin Bank This outstanding home-made wooden coin bank with a brass plate dates to about 1860. George and Carolina Swailes were born in the mid-1820s and lived in Beverley, Yorkshire, England. They were the parents of four boys, whose first and middle names, along with their birthdays, were engraved in script on the brass plate, with four slots for depositing coins for each child: Herbert Constantine, Jan. 19, 1853; George Crossby, June 16, 1854; Johnson Culpeck, November 3, 1855; and Frederick Charles, Sep. 6, 1857. The births of all four children appear in English Birth and Christening Records accessed at Ancestry.com, identifying the family surname. This remarkable piece remains in extraordinary condition and measures 11.3 x 7.0 x 7.5 inches. No key is present to open the back. Ex: Eric P. Newman Numismatic Education Society.
