Description Allender's 1855 Patent Gold Coin Detector An American gold coin counterfeit detector, consisting of a beam, balanced on a fulcrum, with slots for twenty, ten, five, three, two and a half, and both sizes of gold dollars. Original 11.78-gram counterweight included. Patented by John Allender on November 27, 1855. Housed in the original cardboard box, with the directions pasted inside the lid. A short descriptive note on a circular tag from Eric P. Newman, accompanies the lot. Approximate dimensions: 9.0 x 2.0 x 0.7 inches. Ex: Eric P. Newman Numismatic Education Society.
