Pair of Thompson Patent Detectors in Original Boxes These rocker-style coin scale/counterfeit detectors are rare, especially when accompanied by the original box of manufacture. A raised ridge at the center separates rows of slots for U.S. gold and silver denominations. The detector tilts up when a genuine coin is in its proper slot. At least one of these detectors came out of the 1989 Gorlick sale as lot 14, which stated, "This is an extremely rare coin scale by any standard, but in the original box it becomes unique ... $800.00." Both boxes show wear and minor damage, but retain their original lid labels inside and out. Total two detectors, with normal wear on the nickeled brass surfaces. Approximate dimensions: 3.7 x 2.5 x 1.0 inches. Ex: Eric P. Newman Numismatic Education Society.
