Description American Colonial Era Money ScaleA paper label inside the lid of the plain wooden box contains a table of values for various coins commonly found in circulation, and a notice that the scale is sold by Lewis Deblois at the Golden Eagle dock. Deblois, a prominent Boston merchant and importer, was born about 1707 and died in 1779. The box appears to be oak and measures 5.7 x 2.6 x 1.2 inches. The scale arm is 4.6 inches, and the pans are 2.0 inches diameter. Slight corrosion is evident on the brass pans. Included are weights of 2, 4, 5, and 6 grains, and 1, 2, 3, 4, and 5 dwts.
