Description Trio of 18th Century American Scales Three rectangular scales (one with rounded ends) have labels inside the lid providing a table of weights and values for coins. These scales are late 18th century, and two labels provide equivalent values in dollars and cents, the third in pounds, shillings, and pence. The rectangular box with rounded ends measures 5.8 x 2.3 x 0.9 inches, and holds an iron and brass scale and 16 weights. The second iron and brass scale is housed in a plain wooden box measuring 5.8 x 2.9 x 1.1 inches with a table of coins passing in England and Pennsylvania and their Federal value. The third iron and brass scale is earlier, providing a table of coins and their value in New England. This scale is housed in a plain wooden box measuring 5.7 x 2.7 x 1.2 inches and includes seven weights. Ex: Eric P. Newman Numismatic Education Society.
