Description Eric P. Newman Correspondence Files: Charles J. AffleckApproximately 170 pages, primarily consisting of original letters to Eric P. Newman from Affleck and copies of Newman's letters in return, 1960-1974. Subjects discussed include: detailed accounts of various trades between the two, generally involving Colonial, Continental, or Confederate paper money; the research and writing of Affleck's two-volume book The Obsolete Paper Money of Virginia (1968-1969); the 1969 sale of the Budde collection of Colonial and Continental paper money; and the discovery of some notes that were improperly removed from the collection of the Historical Society of Pennsylvania. A two-page handwritten letter from Newman to Affleck providing "Additions to County, City & Scrip section of Virginia listing prepared by Affleck & others" is noted: both the original and the copy are present, with the original also bearing Affleck's notes and responses. Several want lists are exchanged as well as photocopies of various paper money emissions. Condition is generally fine or nearly so. A very interesting group of letters. Estimate $500. Ex: Eric P.
