Eric P. Newman Research Files: Articles on Early American CoinageOne box of correspondence, clippings, photocopies, notes, personal memoranda, and various manuscript and draft materials for several articles by Eric P. Newman on early American coinage, with some additional material on the subject not intended for specific articles. Over 1000 pages present. Materials generally well-preserved. This lot includes a substantial amount of material on the Nova Constellatio coppers and related pieces, about which Eric P. Newman wrote on more than one occasion. Present here are research materials compiled for his 1960 Numismatic Scrapbook article, "The Source of the Nova Constellatio Copper Coinage" and his 1996 COAC article "New Thoughts on the Nova Constellatio Private Copper Coinage," consisting of notes, correspondence, clippings, and other items. Also present are a number of photographs of Nova Constellatio and Immune Columbia pieces, various drafts and clippings (some of them post-dating his last published work on the subject), and other materials. (Museum Notes, 1988); "1796 Broadside Located Covering Circulation of English Halfpence and Farthings in New England" (Colonial Newsletter, July 1995); "Daily Bread: Early American 'Coppers' Specified in Bread Price Regulation in British Occupied New York City (1777-1783)" (Colonial Newsletter, April 2001).
