New York, 1876. 8vo [27.5 by 18 cm], contemporary or slightly later black cloth, embossed in blind, spine lettered in gilt in the English style. 123, (1) pages; folding frontispiece facsimile of the 1828 Watkins broadside. The first substantial American numismatic bibliography, published as the hobby transitioned from its adolescence into adulthood. His descriptions of collectors and dealers of the day are indispensable to any attempt to understand the beginnings of commercial and organizational numismatics in the second half of the 19th century in America. A rare title whose supply has been outstripped by demand since its publication. This is a very well-preserved copy. Estimate $2,500. Ex: Eric P. Newman Numismatic Education Society.
