The 1798 First Edition of Conder Foundational Work on British TokensIpswich: Printed by George Jermyn, 1798. First edition. 12mo, attractively bound in 19th-century brown half calf with marbled boards; spine with five raised bands, ruled in gilt; red morocco spine label, gilt. (24), 330, (2) pages; 3 engraved plates of tokens. Some browning to plates and occasionally elsewhere. Neatly annotated in pencil by a knowledgeable collector. Two early engraved bookplates of Sir George Lee, 6th Baronet of Hartwell, on pastedown. Nearly fine. Conder's Arrangement was the first substantial volume on 18th-century English tokens, and was dutifully honored by having the series named after the author. Estimate $500. Ex: Eric P.
