Burdette Johnson's 1878 Crosby With Commentary on 1783 Nova Constellatio CoinageBoston: Estes & Lauriat, 1878. 4to [30 by 24 cm], original brown half morocco, gilt double fillets; spine with five raised bands, ruled, lettered and decorated in gilt; marbled endpapers and page edges. (2), v, (5), (11)-381, (1) pages; 110 wood engravings in the text; 2 folding heliotype manuscript facsimiles; 10 fine heliotype plates of coins and tokens. The rare variant with an 1878 title page, estimated by Eric P. Newman to have comprised 10% or less of the entire first edition. Binding a bit worn, with cloth wrinkled; one page of handwritten commentary on the 1783 Nova Constellatio coinage, written on the back of a sheet of St. Louis Stamp & Coin letterhead, laid in.
