Unique Glass Negative of Extraordinary Danforth, Wright & Co. Bank Note BroadsideNegative measures approximately 20 by 25 cm. Neither the original broadside nor the glass negative is dated, though the broadside can be dated with certainty from between 1853 and 1858. Danforth, Wright & Co. was a predecessor firm of the American Bank Note Company, formed in 1858. The negative depicts a used copy of the broadside, with fold-marks visible and what appear to be some minor marginal stains. The broadside must have been amazing, as it depicts at least 100 different bank note elements. It was probably intended for distribution by salesmen. The negative likely dates from the 1890-1910 period. Perfectly well-preserved, with no apparent cracking or flaking. Estimate $500. Ex: Lester Merkin. Ex: Eric P. Newman Numismatic Education Society.
