Title Lot 15306
Description Ruth Hill's Collection Inventory And Extensively Annotated CataloguesLot consists of a photocopy of the extensive inventory, handwritten on printed forms, of the enormous collection of world paper money collected over some four decades by Ruth Hill. The inventory was compiled by Hill and includes annotations made as late as 2014 by those involved in maintaining and disposing of the collection. Clear photocopies on 8.5 by 11 inch paper, approximately 900 sheets. Also included are several published catalogues of world paper money that have been heavily annotated by Hill. The printed volumes constitute Hill's original working notes and include much of interest. Volumes present here include: the 1975 edition of Albert Pick's Standard Catalog of World Paper Money, a nearly tattered copy of the third edition, and Volume 2 of the 1982 edition; George J. Sten's Banknotes of the World, Volumes 1 and 2, plus a second copy of Volume 2; a copy of Ohashi Yoshiharu's 1957 guide to Japanese paper money, Nihon Shihei Taikei Zukan. Most of these catalogues are well-worn, and some are coverless and nearly in pieces, lacking pages, etc., but very heavily and usefully annotated. The Japanese volume includes dozen of typewritten sheets of careful notes on the subject of Japanese bank notes. Please note that some of these volumes are incomplete and in very poor condition, but all are far more valuable for their annotations than they are as books. Ruth Hill (1898-1995) was an enthusiastic collector of world paper money and one of the main forces behind the International Bank Note Society (IBNS), of which she was a major supporter and active volunteer. In recognition of her service to the organization, which included a term as President from 1979 to 1981, she was named an Honorary Life Member and an Honorary Director for Life by the IBNS. A collector since the 1950s, she formed an extensive and wide-ranging collection that was eventually sold by Heritage in 2014. The present lot is of considerable relevance to anyone interested in world paper money. Given the nearly universal scope of Hill's curiosity on the subject of paper money, there is something for everyone in these notes. A unique opportunity. Estimate $1,000. Ex: Eric P.
