Title Lot 15312
Description Taller 1861 Edition of Hodges' Bank Note Safe-GuardNew-York: Published by Daniel M. Hodges, Banker, 1861. Folio [36.5 by 22 cm], original decoratively blindstamped russet cloth; upper cover lettered in gilt. (2), 343, (1) pages; typographical depictions of bank notes, 30 to a page, throughout. The 1861 editions are the first to be published under the name of Daniel Hodges instead of his brother John Tyler Hodges. Earlier editions of the Safe-Guard printed 27 notes to a page (arranged 9 by 3); this edition prints 30 to a page (10 by 3), and is about 2.5 cm taller. There exists an 1861 edition with 398 pages arranged 27 notes to a page, which one would assume is an earlier emission. This later emission is quite rare. Binding a bit worn and discolored, but sound. Very good. Estimate $500. Ex: Eric P. Newman Numismatic Education Society. Heritage Auctions 11/2018 (Newman XI), lot15312 (realized $240).
