The Very Rare Second Edition of Maris on United States Copper CoinsSecond edition. Philadelphia: Printed by William K. Bellows, Corner Fourth Street and Apple Tree Alley, 1870. Small 8vo [18 by 11.5 cm], original printed paper covers. 16 pages. Covers slightly dusty, else fine. Published only a year after the first edition, the author adds four new varieties of one cent and one variety of half cent to his enumeration, adding also some notes on rarity. Despite these additions, this second edition is much more rare than the first--which itself is very scarce. This copy was presented to collector William Fewsmith by the author, who inscribed the front cover "Wm. Fewsmith / with regards of E.M." A legendary rarity. Estimate $4,000. Ex: William Fewsmith.
