Naramore Deck of Photographic Facsimiles of Paper MoneyPocket Edition. National Bank Note Detector Being Exact Duplicates of the Genuine Plates Photographed from the Proof Sheets. By Permission of Hon. H. McCulloch, Secretary, U.S. Treasury. Complete set of 18 fine albumen photographic prints depicting, at one fourth actual size, the faces of nine United States and nine National Currency notes, $1 to $1000, mounted on card stock. Card versos with printed text identifying the publisher and citing the authority under which they were produced. Housed in original blue cardboard box, printed in gilt. Upper portion of box in pieces, top and bottom missing; gilt faded. Cards and photographs fine. A rare, very early example of numismatic photography and perhaps the earliest use of this technology as an aid in detecting counterfeit paper currency. Naramore facsimiles are also known to exist in wall chart form as well as affixed back-to-back, but they are all rare. Estimate $500. Ex: Eric P. Newman Numismatic Education Society.
