Eric P. Newman's Correction Copy of The Fantastic 1804 DollarFirst edition, second printing. Racine, 1962. 8vo, original brown cloth lettered in silver. 144 pages; illustrated. Eric P. Newman's extensively annotated and extra-illustrated copy, prepared for corrections of any future editions. Includes over 25 instances of published printed content inserted in the gutter or pasted onto leaves, including published comments made by Newman himself over the years. A number of pages have handwritten annotations, in more than one ink, and a detailed note is laid in discussing the erroneous photograph used on page 137 (alleged to be the Idler specimen). A few other sheets are laid in. An envelope has been affixed to the rear cover, in which several full articles and a number of letters or printed emails have been stored. The book's binding is necessarily broken by the presence of so much extra material, all of which results in a copy of the book about twice as thick as the original. A fantastic copy. Also included in this lot is Newman's revision copy of "The Dollar $ign: Its Written and Printed Origins," in the form of an annotated photocopy of the published article. Estimate $1,000. Ex: Eric P. Newman Numismatic Education Society.
