Strobridge's Rare Plated Catalogue of the Seavey CollectionCambridge: University Press, 1873. 8vo, contemporary black half morocco, gilt; spine lettered in gilt in the English fashion. iv, 63, (1) pages; 1091 listings; 5 fine photographic plates of rare coins, with tissue guards. Originally catalogued for dispersal at auction, this superb collection of Colonials, patterns and United States gold and copper coins was purchased en bloc by Parmelee and the sale never took place. Though 150 copies were reportedly printed to record the collection for posterity, copies are very rare today. A note written by Eric P. Newman and laid into this copy observes that "the image of the reverse of the 1792 Washington President on the first plate and the plate after p. 48 is the same but could be a different metal." The two images do indeed appear to depict different metals. Near fine. Estimate $2,000. Ex: Eric P. Newman Numismatic Education Society.
