1777 George II Imitation British Halfpenny, Good. Apparently part of the "Wood 42" family of imitation halfpence, this piece does not match the plate in Contemporary Counterfeit Halfpenny & Farthing Families. The obverse features a left-facing bust with the legend GEORGIVS II REX. The reverse features a bold date, 1777, in its proper orientation, rather than retrograde as on the plated variety. Like this piece, all examples of the Wood 42 family are low-grade pieces. The central devices on this deep olive-brown example are outlined with mostly complete legends. Ex: Eric P.
