1897$5 MS65 NGC. The 1897 Liberty half eagle claims a substantial mintage of 867,883 pieces, but the issue becomes quite elusive at the MS65 grade level. This delightful Gem exhibits sharply detailed central design elements, but just a touch of softness is evident on the obverse stars. The well-preserved peach-gold surfaces radiate vibrant mint luster, with outstanding eye appeal. Census: 78 in 65 (1 in 65+, 1 in 65 S), 10 finer (8/18). Ex: Eric P.
