(1815-1818) Dutch Three Reaal (18 Stuivers) on a Fifth-Cut 8 Reales, XF40 NGC. Issued by the Dutch Authority shortly after English occupation of Curacao. Spanish-American 8 reales were segmented into five pie-shaped pieces and countermarked with the numeral 3 in a dentilated circle to pass as 3 reales. Crenated edges are normal for these cut pieces. This example is particularly well struck, both on the host coin and the counterstamp. Ex: Eric P. Newman Numismatic Education Society.
Heritage Auctions 11/2018 (Newman XI), lot15614 (realized $576).
