Lot of Three John Allender Rocker Counterfeit Detectors. A circa 1849 balance detector dating from before the firm applied for a patent. It is stamped U.S. GOLD BALANCE and has five coin slots, labeled for the eagle, double eagle, half eagle, quarter eagle, and gold dollar. The dollar slot measures 13 mm., accepting only Type One coins. Very good condition. Two six-coin balance detectors are stamped JOHN ALLENDER / PATENT NOV 27. 1855" with six coin slots labeled for the eagle, double eagle, half eagle, three dollar piece, quarter eagle, and gold dollar. The dollar slot has a 13 mm. inset for Type One coins. Very good to fine condition. Each measures 8.5 x 1.6 x 0.6 inches. Ex: Eric P. Newman Numismatic Education Society.
