Two Brass Multi-Arm Gold Coin Counterfeit Detector Scales, Circa 1850. Very Good to Fine. The first item is a brass three-armed rocker balance, with slots for one, two and a half, five, ten, and twenty dollar U.S. gold coins on one side of the beam and a counterweight on the other. MEYERS & Co./PHILAD is inscribed on the counterweight. The second item is a similar brass rocker scale, used to authenticate the same denominations, but with only two arms, and H (for Howard?) inscribed on the beam. Dimensions vary with the larger detector measuring 5.7 x 1.2 x 1.4 inches. Ex: Eric P. Newman Numismatic Education Society.
