Four Counterfeit Coin Detector Brass Rocker Scales in Original Boxes. Very Good to Fine. The first item is "Moore's Patent Eagle Balance," a brass rocker scale, with two slotted pans (half eagle and quarter eagle size) on one side of the beam and a counterweight on the other. Housed in the original cardboard box. A short descriptive note, written by Eric P. Newman, indicates this item was acquired in a trade with "Gorlick" in 1997. The second item is an "Improved Sovereign Balance" in the original box, with the box a little caved in. This brass rocker scale has the image of a crown inscribed on the counterweight and base, with two labeled pans for sovereign and half sovereign coins on the other side of the beam. The words SOVEREIGN WARRANTED are also inscribed on the base. The third item is a similar brass rocker scale, "Simmons's Improved Sovereign Balance" in the original cardboard box. The box is in excellent condition, but the labels on each end show some folding. The scale has the same inscriptions as the previous item. The fourth item is "SMITH"S IMPROVED GOLD BALANCE," a brass rocker scale, with two slotted pans (sovereign and half sovereign size) on one side of the beam and a counterweight on the other. The image of a crown and the word BUSH'D is inscribed on the counterweight, with SMITH on the beam. IMPROVED/PATENT/WARRANTED is inscribed on the base. Housed in the original cardboard box, which shows minor chipping and wear. Each measures approximately 4 x 1.3 x 0.8 inches. Ex: Eric P. Newman Numismatic Education Society.
