Description Lot of Three Counterfeit Coin Detectors. A Powell Bro's, New York, tip detector is metal with black paint and has two slots, one for quarters and one for half dollars. PAT. APPL'D FOR is stamped on the top. Very good condition. Measures 4.3 x 2.8 x 2.6 inches. A wooden paddle with a brass plate has gauges to check the thickness of English coins. The plate is stamped with the manufacturer, but only WCET & BUTTERWOR [Fawcet and Butterworth of Manchester] is readable, the rest being worn off by frequent polishing of the brass. Registered February 23, 1854. The hand has a small hole in it for hanging. Good condition with some corrosion in the crevices of the plate. Measures 7.3 x 2.0 x 0.9 inches. An H. Maranville pocket counterfeit detector, patented January 13, 1857. Made by C.E. Staples, Worcester, Massachusetts. It has diameter and thickness gauges for foreign and U.S. gold and silver coins, as well as a sliding tip scale for weighing. Fine condition. Measures 3.1 x 1.9 x 0.4 inches. Ex: Eric P.
