Trio of circa 1850 Brass Counterfeit Detector Scales for Quarters and Half Dollars. Very Good to Fine. The first item is a brass rocker scale, with two slots for quarters or half dollars on one side of the beam and a counterweight on the other. The counterweight is inscribed H. TROEMNER/PHILAD. The second item is a similar brass rocker scale, with one rounded and one squared end on the base, no maker or denominations inscribed. A short descriptive note on a circular tag, written by Eric P. Newman, accompanies the scale. The third item is another Troemner scale, very similar to the first, but the maker's name is inscribed upside down on the counterweight, with respect to the denominations on the other side of the beam. A short descriptive note on a circular tag, in Eric's handwriting, accompanies the lot. Each detector is approximately 5.5 x 1.1 x 1.3 inches. Ex: Eric P. Newman Numismatic Education Society.
