Trio of 19th Century Gold Rush Scales, Good to Very Good. The first item is a 19th century Gold Rush scale, housed in a 5.2 x 2.3 x 1 inch oval tin box painted green on the outside and red on the inside, with an American Eagle and Shield on the lid. The paint is faded and chipped in some areas. A covered weight compartment contains a set of two round half-ounce weights and six square weights in dwts. The second item is a "MINER'S IMPROVED GOLD SCALE" manufactured expressly for California in Germany. Housed in a 5.5 x 3.0 x 1.1 inch rectangular tin box with curved corners. The box was painted green, with gold lettering and a Flying Eagle design that has been mostly effaced by wear. The beam, pans, and chains are brass, with a steel fulcrum and pointer. A wooden insert has four insets for round weights: half-ounce, one-ounce, three-ounces, and 10 dwts. A descriptive note in Eric P. Newman's hand indicates he bought this scale on eBay. The third item is a Gold Rush scale in a 7.3 x 3.5 x 1 inch oval tin box, with badly peeling green paint on the outside and peeling red paint on the inside, with shiny metal underneath. An uncovered weight compartment contains two round half-ounce weights and two round two-ounce weights. Ex: Eric P. Newman Numismatic Education Society.
