19th Century Miner's Scale Trio, Good to Very Good. The first item is a two-pan balance American mining scale, housed in a black leather rectangular box with plush maroon interior, and a covered weight compartment containing eight small weights in dwt. increments. The leather cover features a gold embossed American Eagle with shield and the case contains a handwritten note, from Eric P. Newman, describing the scale and box. The gilt decorations have faded, and the leather cover is cracked in some areas. The second item is a duplicate of the first, except the weight compartment only contains three weights and the note inside reads simply "DUPLICATE." The third item is a smaller version of the same scale, housed in a smaller rectangular box with a similar leather cover and plush-lined interior. The cover displays the same gold embossed American eagle with shield design, but the weight compartment is uncovered, and no weights are included.
