Six Items, Mostly English Coin Scales, Circa 1790-1800, Good to Fine. The first item is a two-pan balance, housed in an oval tin box with leather covered lid and fabric lining. Inside are irregular oblong weight compartments that contain 1-6 dwts,, 3 grain weights, and circular nested weights of half and quarter troy ounces. The second item is an English scale in an oval tin box with a cushioned lid and red interior. An irregular weight compartment includes custom insets for three bell-style weights, only two of which are present. The smaller weight is marked 2-10, and the larger is marked 5-8. The third item is an English coin scale with feathers attached as a plumb, circa 1800, housed in an oval tin box with a cushioned lid. A wooden insert features custom insets for guinea and half guinea weights (weights included). A short descriptive note from Eric P. Newman, accompanies the scale. The fourth item is an English coin scale with brass pans, circa 1790. Housed in an oval tin box, with a cushioned lid and a wooden insert with weights in the guinea, half guinea, and quarter guinea denominations. A short descriptive note in Eric P. Newman's hand accompanies the scale. The fifth item is an English coin scale with brass pans and feather plumb, circa 1800. Housed in an oval tin box with red interior. A custom wooden insert contains two bell-style weights in guinea and half guinea denominations. A short descriptive note in Eric P. Newman's hand accompanies the scale.
